VAT Registration (Requirements)

- Company tax number required
- Completed and signed VAT application (VAT101) form - click here
- Certified copies of registration document (COR14.1, COR14.1A, COR14.3, COR15.1A)
- Certified copies of identity documents of the two main directors
- Original signed and stamped letter from bank confirming business bank details (no internet printouts)
- Certified copy of identity documents of the representative employer
- Recent original business municipal account
- If the property is leased, a certified copy of the lease agreement
- Recent original residential municipal account of the Individual or representative employer
- Completed and signed confirmation of residential address form CRA01 on SARS website - click here
- Copy of financial information listed as per part four of the application form to determine taxable supplies (no cash flow projections)
  (e.g. bank statements showing deposits and copies of invoices issued for last 3 months showing R 50,001 or more)

PAYE Registration (Requirements)

Any business who employs at least one employee or any salaried director must register for PAYE/UIF and pay over monthly the employee taxes (PAYE) and/or UIF. The following are needed for application to register:


EMPLOYEES TAX (PAY AS YOU EARN or PAYE)


An employer is obliged to register for employees tax purposes where the employer pays remuneration to an employee who is liable for normal income tax.


SDL


An employer is obliged to register for SDL purposes unless there are reasonable grounds for believing that the total leviable amount paid or payable by the employer to all its employees during the following 12 month period will not exceed R 500,000. This compulsory levy scheme was introduced with effect from 1 April 2000. The following employers are exempt for the payment of SDL but are not absolved from the obligation to register for SDL purposes:



UIF (SARS)


An employer who is obliged to register for employees tax purposes is obliged to register for UIF contribution purposes at SARS.


This registration with SARS was introduced with effect from 1 April 2002.


UIF (DEPARTMENT OF LABOUR) - All employers must also register with the Department of Labour
